Are You On the Right Page?
NCUA
is the regulator of your credit union if it is a Federal Credit Union
(a credit union with the word "federal" contained in its name, or any credit union in Delaware, South Dakota, Wyoming or Washington, DC).
to look up your credit union's charter number. Federal credit unions
have charter numbers under 60000, state-chartered credit unions have
charter numbers greater than 60000.
If your complaint
concerns a state-chartered credit union (a credit union without the
word "federal" as part of its name and not located in Delaware, South
Dakota, Wyoming or Washington, DC), file your complaint with the state supervisory authority.
Note: If you are having trouble determining who regulates your lender, we recommend that you file your complaint in three places: the OCC, the Federal Reserve Board, and your State Attorney General. Both the OCC and the FRB promise to reroute complaints mistakenly filed with them.
How To File a Complaint with the NCUA:
You
may file a formal complaint by sending the NCUA a letter - no special
form is required - to the NCUA regional office for your state (see
below).
Your letter, fax or email should identify the full
name and address of the credit union, explain your problem clearly and
briefly and state what action you want the credit union to take to
resolve the problem. If you send documentation supporting your
complaint, use legible photocopies. Do not send us your original
statements or other documents. If you have already communicated with
the federal credit union in writing, enclose a copy of the
correspondence along with the reply you received. Be sure to include
your name and postal address in the letter, fax or email.
Please choose the state below in which your credit union is located.
